Scenarios Where Xbox Beats Steam
Переглядів 99116 годин тому
Just so we're clear, I'm talking about the Xbox ecosystem as a whole and the very specific personal scenarios I've found where Xbox beats Steam for my game purchases and playtime. It's sort of an extension of a video I've been kicking around about multiplatform gaming in the modern age and sorting out where to buy a game when you have multiple options available. And because Xbox had some distin...

    Got this from tiktok. Kept seeing a ton of ads for it and it eventually got me. I did not need it whatsoever. But I got it at around $50 which was definitely justifiable. I wouldn’t pay the full price though but that’s just because I’ve barely had any use for it other than connecting my steam deck to have its own setup at a different desk.(as I said I didn’t need it, just an impulse buy)

      @@YourPlayer2 If you ever run into a game that has retroachievements, but isn't showing the achievements; go on the site and to that particular game page under the box art there is a button "Supported Game Files" click that and it shows the version of the game you need. Sometimes you need either the USA or Europe version and sometimes like in ps2 GTA San Andreas you need a specific version 1.03. It's rare, but it does happen to me on occasion. I think the God of War games on PSP required the Europe versions.

    Great video as always, two picks in there that i'd heard of but hadn't heard much about (Ghosthunter and Haunting Ground) definitely gonna have to try those out. I've been doing a fair bit of emulation on my deck recently. Specifically the great PS2 superhero stuff that I played back when I was young. The Punisher is one i'd been itching to replay for a long time and I'm surprised just how much of it I remember. Even down to the only (I think?) cheat that works on the console versions. I miss when there were always radically different comic book games releasing NGL. Going from Ultimate Spider-Man to Ultimate Alliance and The Punisher is enough to give someone whiplash lol. It's a shame that it was never a particularly well optimized game since that seems to be bleeding over to the emulation (disabling SMT helps a ton)

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2 6 годин тому

      Thanks a bunch, Garga :) I'd heard of Haunting Ground but Ghosthunter was BARELY somewhere in my memory. Still, both worth exploring for sure! LoL speaking of superhero stuff I was about to drop X-Men Legends on here, brilliant precursor that it was to Ultimate Alliance but sadly wasn't an exclusive so got disqualified :p When it comes to Punisher I was SO excited for that game back in the day because I'd played a demo disc for it that was not censored. But then the game came out and was censored with that black and white/shift the camera away from the execution effect and I actually convinced Gamestop to let me return it! There were some really fun titles back then and I still feel like a LOT of comic book potential remains untapped within gaming. Although I am very much looking forward to Marvel 1943 and Blade!

    I never had the chance to play many PS2 games, I had a Xbox at the time and never really dipped into the PS2 all that much. There are still a ton of horror games i want to play from the PS2 era but lately I've been finding the PSP a lot of fun on the Steam Deck, mainly because of the extra controls the Steam Deck has. Plus I still think the PSP is one of my fav portable consoles, right behind the Gameboy Color.

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2 6 годин тому

      Well your possibilities are endless now, Tether! :p On the subject of horror I was going to feature The Thing at some point (and still might) but hey, now we're getting a full blown remaster from Nightdive! PSP is definitely up there for me, moreso than the Vita even honestly- Loved playing Silent Hill Origins on it even if it wasn't a fan favorite :p Any recommendations for the Gameboy Color? I mostly had original Gameboy games and feel like there are some gems I'm probably missing there.

    • @TetherOnline
      @TetherOnline 5 годин тому

      I may have a few I would recommend! The first two I highly recommend the Legend Of Zelda: Oracle Of Seasons & Oracle of Ages. They were developed developed by Capcom and what makes both games so cool was that you could play each game as it is, but if you beat one you get a code to add to the other and it continues off where you left off and revealing the full story. Shantae is another good one since its where the character got its start and is one of the more rare games to own physically sadly. Donkey Kong Country is pretty good, its less amazing for how the game looks and run and more amazing at the fact that they got the game working at all on the system. I haven't played it yet but I have heard that the Metal Gear Solid game is one of the best on the system. Also I would have added Resident Evil Gaiden on there but there is a unfinished version of the PS1 Resident Evil rebuilt for the Gameboy Color and honestly looks amazing. From my understanding its just straight up the first original game with no voice acting and was scrapped before they went on to make Resident Evil Gaiden.

The fact that I can play some of the latest releases for 15$ a month instead of paying 70$ for each releases, it's such an advantage! Other devices like an iPad or Nintendo Switch have no issue with the captured feed. And I'd even go so far to say it had worked for some time. (Or I never noticed the colors are off...) Any ideas what could be wrong?

    • @YourPlayer2

      Hard to say, but you might try swapping components in your setup individually to see if there's any change to try and isolate. Could be a funky cable or something. Alternatively there may be some cryptic video setting on the Deck somewhere though I'm not sure I've encountered any myself.

Achievement points and steam points don't mean shit but on PlayStation, getting a platinum trophy for a game is different Steam just needs to make different achievements grades like PlayStation does and go away from the points and it would be perfect!

    For me it depends on the game or use case. I use PS5 for AAA exclusives, or just AAA in general if I am buying them. I use my PC for Gamepass for XBOX games I can't get on PS5, or EA Play games like Jedi Survivor. And I use Steam generally for Indie/older games I normally play on my Steam Deck. Steam Deck is also handy for streaming from PS5 or using Xbox Cloud via XBPlay app.

    • @YourPlayer2
      @YourPlayer2 4 дні тому

      PS5 is also my typical platform for collecting multiplatform releases but yeah, it would be hard for me to ditch consoles entirely. It'd be cool if everything could be unified for convenience sake buuuut on the other hand I want competition to exist for these big manufacturers/publishers ya know?

      If there's any particular exclusive you're after then sure! But a lot of their games come to PC as well so if that's where you do the bulk of your playing it might not be wholly necessary. But if you're looking for a quick, responsive game setup with pretty solid graphics in the comfort of your living room might be worth a look- particularly if you play a bunch of Play Anywhere titles where you can sync your progress!

    Microsoft rewards. Which I think is a bit more than Xbox rewards Link it to re-newing your GamePass. It’s (I think) 10,500 points to renew it. Can get that easily every 2 months. So. By my math, that kind of makes it half price 😆

    ' _there are times when you can find games "objectively cheaper" on Microsoft's platform over Steam, case in point: Silent Hill Homecoing at $3.99_ ' According to SteamDB, it goes on sale on Steam for $3.99, so that's "objectively" false. Or if you go to IsThereAnyDeal, you can find alternative sellers and buy the game cheaper that way. As for Game Pass, you used the worst example of Hi-Fi Rush. The studio was shut down due to the game not meeting sales targets, due in large part to people playing the game via Game Pass and not actually buying it. Former Microsoft senior PR manager Brad Hilderbrand: " _The biggest paradox with Game Pass is that basically every game that launches on the service badly misses its sales goals. Makes sense though, why pay full price to buy a game when you can play it for "free" as part of your subscription?_ " " _the fact that most games don't stay at the top of the chart for more than a month or two, and also that Game Pass growth has stagnated. So games like Hi-Fi Rush, which is incredible mind you, gets a very small bump in revenue from being the hot Game Pass game for a month, then it falls off a cliff when everyone moves onto the next thing. Poor Redfall had it even worse since it launched so rough, it never had a chance_ " tl;dr: The Game Pass business model just doesn't work, especially not for smaller studios and games. While being too little too late, the fact that people started buying the game on Steam kinda sums up how people feel about Game Pass not being financially sustainable, and buying the game on Steam was a last ditch effort to show actual financial support towards the developer. The one thing I do completely agree with that Xbox does better: is the resume feature; it would be great to see if Valve can somehow manage to implement that feature one day, too. In regards to consoles having less friction compared to PC's, that's true depending on your usecase (just want to play on couch without fuss), but with the rumour of Microsoft ostensibly turning the next Xbox into a glorfied PC that runs on Windows, but with a console-like frontend, that may no longer be an issue, and you could simply buy a heavily subsidised Xbox and then proceed to only buy all your games via Steam. Supposedly, this new front end could be making its way to Windows and will benefit Windows handhelds or just people who want to use their PC like a console. So at that point you will have the QoL features of console, but on PC. There's also SteamOS; once Valve releases SteamOS, publicly, it will make it easier to have a console-like Steam experience on a powerful living room Steam Machine/PC. There's also the rumour that Valve is working on some sort of Home Console + wireless VR headset, with the codenames of "Galileo" and "Deckard".

    That new setup is fantastic! Still great audio without the mic getting in the way. As for Gamepass-used to have it, but I’m lazy and don’t care for having to go back and forth between launchers and I have everything I need consolidated onto Steam. I only buy games on consoles for their exclusive or first party titles, which even now is slowly changing (at least for Xbox). Just wish Nintendo would jump on the bandwagon and offer their titles on Steam. I’ll gladly pay for the convenience-as opposed to tinkering with emulation for my must have Switch games and/or having to carry two devices.

    That new mic is vast upgrade, very crisp. I've always been super fond of how Steam handles soundtracks I've bought. I absolutely love soundtracks so having super quick access is great, also appreciate that they don't (seemingly) use any kind of DRM for them, too, so I'm not limited on where/how I listen to them. Though I have been wanting them to offer WAV's or FLAC's alongside the MP3's they use currently. GOG does it and it's super nice.
